The Assessor is a local government official who places a value on each parcel within the town. This value is converted into an assessment, which is one component in the computation of real property tax bills.
The Assessor must obtain basic certification which requires the successful completion of courses prescribed by the New York State Office of Real Property Services.
The Assessor maintains the municipality's assessment roll--the document containing each property assessment. This includes the physical description (or inventory) value estimate and appropriate exemptions.
The property inventory is available for inspection during regular business hours.
IT IS THE RESPONSIBILITY OF THE PROPERTY OWNER TO MONITOR THEIR EXEMPTIONS.
Senior Citizen, Enhanced STAR, Basic STAR, Veterans, Clergy, and Agriculture are the most requested exemptions in our town.
These and other forms can be obtained from either the local Assessors office or @ www.Oswegocounty.com. Exemptions for Senior Citizens and Enhanced STAR must be renewed each year as they are based on income criteria.
All new and renewal applications must be submitted to the Assessors Office by March 1st of each year.
NEW STAR applicants must now register with NYS Tax!
(AFTER 2016) Credit will be in a form of a check.
Application forms for yearly renewal will be sent to property owners about January 1st of each year.
